DIRECTOR'S DESK

Institute for Seri-Biotechnological Research was established in 1993 under the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, with the vision of integrating modern biotechnology and advanced biological sciences into sericulture research.

Over the years, the institute has evolved into a leading centre for frontier research in Seri biotechnology, contributing significantly towards the sustainable development and global competitiveness of the Indian silk industry.

The institute is actively engaged in multidisciplinary research encompassing Silkworm Biotechnology, Host Plant Biotechnology, and Silk Biomaterials. Through the integration of genomics, molecular breeding, functional biology, molecular diagnostics, and advanced analytical technologies, CSB-ISBR focuses on developing innovative solutions to enhance silk productivity, improve host plant resilience, and strengthen disease management in sericulture.

Core Research Thrust Areas
Silkworm Breeds & Genomics
Climate-Resilient Mulberry Varieties
Rapid Molecular Diagnostic Tools
Silk-Based Biomaterials

Research activities at the institute are directed towards the development of superior silkworm breeds, climate-resilient mulberry varieties, rapid molecular diagnostic tools, and value-added silk-based biomaterials for biomedical, healthcare, and industrial applications. With state-of-the-art research facilities and strong collaborations with national and international research organisations, CSB-ISBR continues to promote innovation-driven and translational research for the benefit of farmers, researchers, industry stakeholders, and society. The institute remains committed to scientific excellence, sustainable technologies, and human resource development in the field of Seri biotechnology.
